Pitch advertising campaigns to real clients. Conduct reporting in a bustling newsroom. Work on real public relations cases. Perform live sports broadcast journalism. And do it all before you graduate. The Communication program at Marist provides the flexibility and the resources to give you a competitive edge when you enter the field.
It was the Communication Department that made me choose Marist. Throughout my time at Marist, I’ve been able to take classes directly related to my future career and have internships that have really helped me grow as a public relations professional.
Thanks to Marist, I landed the internship opportunity of a lifetime with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. I worked on and presented a three-year, multistage plan based on bringing e-sports—an untapped demographic—to the stadium. It was a great experience.
Marist has brought out the go-getter side of me and its curriculum has allowed me to take so many elective courses where I discovered new subjects and issues I didn't even know I had an interest in. I feel like I've definitely got a better idea of who I am and what career path I want to take.
My semester-long internship in New York City got me excited for what lies ahead professionally. All of my experiences at Marist have made me feel really prepared for a career in the administrative side of theatre.
There were many reasons why I chose Marist – the beautiful campus, the people, the culture, the opportunities that came with a school so close to New York City. Before coming to Marist, I had never used a camera, never produced a video, and never edited a video. I now have the privilege of doing all three for Sports Illustrated, which is such a prestigious company, so I’d say the classes and clubs at Marist prepared me pretty well!
At first, I came into Marist as a journalism major, but after having the option of taking PR classes, I fell in love with the field. I believe that Marist gives you time to figure out what you're really interested in before committing. And last semester, with the help of the Communication Internship Center, I was able to intern for SONY Music Entertainment.
